Triathlon 2008

This past Saturday Kris and I did the Casa Grande Triathlon. I have done a couple of triathlons before (including this one 3 years ago) and I was excited to have Kris compete in it with me. When we decided to both do it we were gung ho about working out and totally motivated each other to get training. Then we were kind of slacking. I blame my Richmond work trip because ever since then I haven't been as gung ho to really do anything! haha But I still wanted to try to beat my time from before. So I was just going to give it my all and do the best I could do.

We started the race together. They start the swimming serpentine style and so a swimmer starts every 10 seconds. Kris was right in front of me. I felt pretty good after the swim, headed to the transition station and got ready for the biking. I started the bike and reached down to get a drink, and when I put my water bottle back I dropped it! Well I wasn't about to waste any time stopping to get it, I would just have to do without. Well here comes my knight on his bike and lets me have some of his water. Throughout the bike leg we kept on passing each other and we each had our fast points. (We both wonder if we would've performed differently had we not been so close together and could see each other throughout the whole race...) After the bike I grabbed some water and started my run. It was a little hard at first but I was going pretty slow and figured that I would be able to break out in a hard run. Well...then I got the worst side splints I have ever had...on BOTH sides! I was doubled over and could barely breathe! I stopped to walk a little bit and stretch out, thinking that this is going to kill my time! So I continued to run at a very slow pace. As I was getting closer to the finish I saw Kris not too far ahead of me and then I heard cheers from my sister's family. They were like "GO, you can't let him beat you!" So that made me run faster...even though I was still aching. **Warning-gruesome part coming up** As I was running the last leg of the race I could feel the puke coming up...i crossed the finish line...went to the side...and threw up. I was shocked!! I have never thrown up before from working out! My kind sister waited until I was done before she took this...
I was totally convinced that I did really well in the swim and bike and then totally choked in the run. Well, when they posted the times I was shocked!! I did better in the swim, and the run!! The bike I was a little over a minute my time from before. So I pretty much got the same time as I had in the past. I was totally bummed thinking of what my time would be if I didn't cramp up in my run!! Grrrr. Oh-well. Next time!! Kris and I got the same times! Well...me faster by 2 seconds, but who is keeping track?? :) This is a picture of us finding out our results...
Here is my sister and the kids with their signs for us. Totally cute! Kayla had a trophy sign which she said I would keep for myself or share with Kris, it was up to me. And Kristin's sign said "run, run as fast as you can...they can't catch you...your as fast as the gingerbread man." I loved it!! Thanks so much for coming out to support us!!

Conclusion is...I can't wait for my next race and Kris can't wait to go and cheer me on. :)

Am I understanding that Kris doesn't want to race again...he is going to be the cheerleader? I loved reading about your race. How did the Mitchell boys do? You are my hero. Love, MOM

Haha Yeah...Kris doesn't care to do another race. The Mitchell boys did awesome! Jeff: 1:03, Jason: 1:06 and Mark 1:11. They kicked butt!

I'm so proud of you! You totally barfed! That just makes me smile... I guess it's kinda' gross, but still. I love your guts! I wish I could've gone and cheered you on! I love being in those environments! Let me know when you want to do another one (soon please?). I need a buddy to push me in my training. Oh... and the Garlic/Cilantro dressing you just mentioned... you need to tell me how you make it. It sounds delish! Love you!

You know what they say...if you don't pass out or throw up, you didn't work hard enough! Way to work hard...now for Kris, maybe he could have worked a bit harder...um?!
